Field and Sales Marketing Lead – NEWTON RUNNING

POSITION OVERVIEW:    

Jointly reporting to the VP of Marketing and the Director of Retail Sales, the Field and Sales Marketing Lead is responsible for managing a team of passionate field marketing representatives. He/she will oversee all strategic planning, budgeting and program development for field marketing programs that are designed to build the Newton Running brand and increase sales. He/she has proven excellence in managing, mentoring, developing and building teams, with particular experience managing remotely based staff. This is an at-will, exempt position that is based in Boulder, CO and requires extensive travel (50%+).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage Field Marketing Team

Primary focus is the day-to-day management and development of remotely-based staff:

  • Lead as a mentor and servant-leader
  • Hire, motivate, supervise, train and develop an enthusiastic team of passionate millennial employees who are remotely based and operate independently
  • Foster strong and deep connections between staff and the Boulder headquarters, among the field marketers who are interspersed throughout the country, and within the sales team
  • Work closely with employees to create long-term performance plans, conduct performance reviews and support career develop and personal growth

Drive coordination between marketing field reps and sales teams

  • Work closely with the VP of Marketing and the Director of Sales to coordinate calendars and drive national and local programs and result in sales
  • Lead and own the process of linking marketing targets with sales plans in order to grow the Newton Running Brand at the specialty retail and grassroots level
  • Act as liaison in order to insure sales needs are considered in corporate marketing and sales planning, serving as the conduit for go-to-market programs and initiatives

Program development and implementation

  • Proactively seek to understand local markets, key customer trends and consumer dynamics and provide a POV on how to best drive the Newton Running Brand in each market and with our key retail partners within Specialty Running
  • Oversee and develop field event toolkits, including planning logistics, managing teams, creating collateral and providing feedback and evaluation after marketing initiatives
  • Work with in-house creative services team on creative development, production and campaign implementation, tracking and analysis for retail and grassroots marketing
  • Assists the various sales and field marketing teams with their planning in order to secure integration into the overall marketing and business plan
  • Manage logistics and distribution of equipment and assets in a timely and economical fashion and in-line with key marketing and sales dates
  • Adapt national brand plans and create custom marketing plans for local implementation

Principal Job Responsibilities

Accountant will report to the Inventory/Sales Support Manager and may also provide general accounting support for financial accounting areas, with an immediate focus on inventory setup and analysis. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Support efficient and accurate inventory accounting process, including:

  • Establish inventory in Company ERP system to properly account for quantity, costing and revenue recognition. Establish/maintain coding system for new inventory to work for appropriate sales channels
  • Establish and maintain inventory unit costs
  • Review and analyze sales, cost of sales and margins of all inventory sold
  • Reconcile payment of inventory purchase orders with receipt of physical inventory
  • Work in coordination with various locations to maintain accurate physical inventory counts. Investigating material variances.
  • Provide inventory transfers for various locations including expo, concept store, Canada and international locations
  • Confirm receipt of inventory in the approval of shipping invoices
  • Coordinate with payables on the proper payment of apparel and accessories

Principal Job Responsibilities

The Sales Representative will be responsible for the following:

    1. Sales and Customer Service
      • Aggressively identify, prioritize and manage customer relationships with partners in the territory to achieve annual sell-in and sell-thru sales goals for Newton Running Company’s distributor.
      • Directly achieves business results through developing understanding of customer requirements and making recommendations for programs, solutions, customer decisions and resource allocation. Demonstrates knowledge of key influencers and ability to use them
      • Develops and executes running and educational events to benefit local retailers
      • Provides retailers and retail customers with education on running form and injury prevention
    2. Sales Operations
      • Actively participate in forecasting and inventory planning process
      • Proactively plan and manage retail partners’ business, including frequent formal business reviews, forecasting, ongoing development of merchandising plan, inventory management, developing and executing against promotions and events calendar
    3. Business and Sales Analysis
      • Reports on business plan progress
      • Evaluation against programs and initiatives - performance, spending, results vs. forecast
      • Actively leverages knowledge of competitors and customers to enhance competitiveness and ability to accelerate business growth
    4. Core Competencies / Knowledge and Skill Requirements
      • Bachelor's Degree is preferred in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration or related field
      • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales
      • Fluent in Spanish
      • High level of business planning and presentation skills
      • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
      • Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills
      • Advanced PC knowledge and skills
      • Must have the ability to travel extensively
      • Valid driver’s license and valid car insurance

This position is part of our European sales representative team that reports to the Director of Sales for Europe.The Sales Representative will work as an independent agent, and will be responsible for a very proactive and hands on approach to achieving ambitious sales goals in the Nordrhein Westfalen, Bremen Niedersachsen and Schleswig Holstein regions. Principal Job Responsibilities

    1. Product Portfolio Management
      • Evaluate market needs through a strong understanding of runner’s consumer behavior, the competitive landscape, and detailed response to Newton’s products.
      • Craft product briefs and pitch concepts to the Newton executive team with relevant information including: competitive landscape, target MSRP/costs/margins, product features and benefits needs, sustainable production & materials, target consumers, target accounts, etc.
      • Work closely with running specialty retailers in acquiring product feedback and direction.
      • Discover, evaluate and prioritize Newton product assortment and growth opportunities relative to consumer needs/segments; competitive running products and pricing; customer assortments, segmentation and merchandising opportunities; and overall design and cultural trends
      • Working with Marketing and Product Development, define 3 year and annual product line imperatives/priorities and seasonal initiatives to achieve sales and margin, enrich the brand and deliver on consumer and retailer/channel needs and goals
      • Evaluate and set financial goals for product pipeline initiatives that achieve annual and strategic product growth targets for the portfolio
      • Build business case in support of annual product initiatives
      • Lead and align key cross-functional and Newton Running stakeholders on product strategy and key annual product line priorities and initiatives
      • Adapt product plans to address shifting needs and opportunities of the market
    2. Product Design & Merchandising
      • Evaluate portfolio to deliver on diverse merchandising/assortment opportunities of consumers and channels including core product improvement, seasonal refresh/extensions, new segment entry and innovation
      • Map and calendar product introductions aligned to portfolio plan
      • Ensure portfolio and select products align with brand DNA and positioning
      • Partner with design to create category and product stories and concepts that address identified market opportunities for Newton Running brand and portfolio
      • Partner with design, development and manufacturing to ensure products meet sustainability goals and contributes to Company goals to reduce environmental impact
      • Lead product cross-functional briefing process for multiple seasons
      • Translate market insights into articulate design briefs including clear product positioning, core design challenge and requirements, including pricing/margin
      • Ensure product design meets strategic direction and positioning of brief; partner with design to deliver product concept and story according to brief/strategy
      • As needed, lead research to validate product concepts and design with target consumer in terms of needs, fit with brand and differentiation
      • Present product line, concepts and designs to senior management, cross-functional stakeholders, and retailers at key points
      • With design team and product development project manager, oversee schedule from brief to production; solve schedule, cost and scope challenges as needed to hit launch dates in annual and seasonal plans
      • Craft process and identify opportunities to accelerate time-to-market
      • Complete all/any paperwork approving designs
    3. Cross-Functional Partnership
      • Align and communicate product strategy and annual initiatives on an on-going basis
      • Plan, project manage and launch annual and seasonal products in order to achieve targets
      • Serve as the brand’s lead on all product presentations both internally and with retailers, trade and lifestyle media outlets, and co-branding partners.
      • Evaluate product launches, discontinuance and expansion opportunities

    5. Core Competencies and Skill Requirements
      • BA or BS in marketing, business or a related field of study; MBA is advantageous
      • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in product management and marketing, footwear product management is an advantage along with exposure to the running specialty trade channel through retail experience and/or a buyer role in running footwear.
      • Finance & Planning: Demonstrated ability and experience in strategic planning, annual planning, sales planning, forecasting and analysis
      • Product Design & Merchandising: Understanding of the product design and development process; experience and exposure to design and working with design teams; understanding of retail merchandising and assortment planning and metrics
      • Project Management & Execution: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects across functions and external partners, on budget, and on schedule.
      • Analysis: Ability to bring together diverse data sets to inform and shape strategy, annual initiatives and action steps to grow the business
      • Product launches: Demonstrated experience launching numerous products
      • Agility: Experience working in a fast paced, start-up or business unit/product platform of a mid-sized organization. Demonstrated record of thriving in a fast-paced, diverse, entrepreneurial work environment in rapid growth stages
      • Communication: Articulate. Able to effectively communicate to leadership, peers and team members. Facility with key methods of presentation. Must have a high degree of social intelligence
      • Committed runner with personal experience with or in-depth understanding of Newton Running brand, running consumer, sales channels and competitive set
      • Must like office dogs and running as frequently as possible
