Sales Specialist - Cleveland

Position Summary

Reporting to the Account Manager, the Sales Specialists work to increase sell-thru and grass-roots outreach at major accounts. Sales Specialists’ primary goals include: 1) leading and implementing programs that drive retail sell-through; 2) ensuring retail sales staff are fully educated on products; 3) successfully deploying marketing and POP materials designed to increase sell-through. These are exempt, full time positions that are based in specific territories and require extensive travel within the territory (75%+)

Primary Job Responsibilities

Working closely with the territory’s Regional Account Manager and the National Accounts Manager, provide extraordinary service to support consumer sell-through at identified Gold and National Retail partners in the territory, including:

  • Execute the 12-month business plan including support of all retail contests, training and events to drive sell-through
  • Provide technical sales presentations
  • Conduct running clinics, demo events
  • Work key shifts at retail stores
  • Check inventory and solicit fill-in orders
  • Coordinate and execute local expo events with retailer
  • Maintaining top level customer service
  • Help staff Newton Running expos/events
  • Implement in-store retail merchandising

Activate regional programs to advance and elevate the Newton Running brand

  • Implement grassroots programs and relationships, including leveraging local Newton Ambassadors and sponsored athletes
  • Be an authentic ambassador for the Newton Running Brand
  • Capitalize on and develop “the Newton Tribe” on a regional basis
  • Develop a stable of key media influencers and tastemakers

Complete all administrative functions with timeliness and accuracy

  • Actively gather and share competitor data and market trends with Corporate
  • Manage extensive travel logistics in efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Document your hustle with up-to-date business plans for each Gold and National account, as well as contact and activity reports completed on a weekly basis

Core Competencies / Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Sales experience is critical
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with the running shoe industry or related outdoor products
  • High level of competency presenting to groups and answering challenging questions
  • A charismatic personality and a customer focused mentality
  • Deep experience in specialty run shops
  • Demonstrative success activating sales programs, merchandizing and events
  • Experience as a runner or triathlete and strong natural running skills
  • Intermediate PC knowledge and skills
  • Planning and executing cost effective frequent travel plans (airline, car rental and hotel)
  • Personal experience with Newton Running shoes

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration or related field

Alchemist

Summary

Alchemists are a Newton Running volunteers dedicated to promoting trial, strengthening retail associate relationships with Newton Running and increasing the sell-through of Newton Running shoes by working select evening and or weekend shifts at major retail accounts near their home. Alchemist support in this pilot program will be solely focused on stores of a major sporting goods account in one of three pilot territories. Hours per month are flexible. All scheduling to be arranged through the Sales Specialist assigned to the territory.

Alchemists should be:

    Loyal brand ambassador with personal experience in Newton Running shoes
    Personally or professionally active in the running community (for example, current or former high school or collegiate coach or athlete, trainer, or a passionate runner, triathlete or coach)
    Self-confident, charismatic, engaging and customer focused

Responsibilities

Support consumer trial at major retail accounts near your home, including:

  • Positively represent the brand in-store with sales associates, managers and consumers
  • Encourage trial, educate on the products, and encourage consumers to FEEL Newton Running
  • Build relationships with retail staff by working the floor during key shifts
  • Support in-store programming including try-on programs and fun runs

  • Capitalize on and develop “the Newton Tribe”
  • Be an authentic ambassador for the Newton Running Brand in and out of store
  • Share Newton Running experiences and content on social media

Be a voice for Alchemist program planning beyond pilot phase

  • Help define and refine the Alchemist program
  • Recruit and help develop other Alchemists
