Good improvements on what was already good
The new modifications are great with stretch of the toe box more like the AHA's, which proves to be quite nice after logging several miles. Its a smooth ride but with the POP1 is indeed peppy or springy. I've already put a lot of time into the new model and have no complaints . . . .

5-lugs...where have you been!?!?
I'm an avid Newton Distance user (that's all I run in) for the past 6 seasons with hundreds of miles on these shoes. I run half marathons and everything from Sprint to Ironman distance Triathlons.

Consistent with other Newtons, they are still a half size larger then normal non-Newton shoes. These also feel more stable under foot (than the 4-lug version). The lugs hit the right spot across the entire width of the shoe, and I also felt more peppiness in the spring of these lugs (also compared to the 4-lug version).

The insole has a slight protrusion upwards across the arch of the shoe which seems to give the feel of a little bit more stability under foot (very subtle though).

If you like the 4-lugs...you'll love the 5!! I felt an immediate different!

I love the Distance series from Newton! I've worn every version of this shoe from Newton. The Distance III was perfect. The reinforcement to the key foot striking areas has eliminated the peeling and shredding from the heel of the shoe. However, the IV version is just a bit snug in the toe box. That one drawback hasn't affected me at all though. I'm a natural size 8 and even though some recommend going up in size with Newtons the Dist III were such a perfect fit I'll just hope the next generation of Newton Distance rectify this. Either way I'm still a Newton runner for life!

Light and airy
Typical Newton bouncy feel. Shoe is very light and airy, which is perfect for these hot and humid Texas summers. I mostly use this shoe for my speed work (track and tempo runs). Always feel great during and after running in these.

15 year running on Asics!!
More than 20 marathons on my back, 2 ironMans, and plenty of Half Marathons, triathlons, 10k, and I just tried the newton Distance. ARE JUST GREAT!!! I been always reluctant to try new shoes beside my Asics, but now that I discovered the Newton, what a difference, the best running shoes ever. Just the best. I love them, my Asics go to the trash can.

Light, bright and out of sight!
Distance IV s are even lighter than Newton Gravity shoes (which I loved running in for the past three years). I like the new tongue, which is less padded than Gravity s and does not soak up as much sweat when running on a hot day. Love the high visibility of the shoe. Very comfortable to run in. I typically run eight to ten miles, five days a week. These are responsive shoes which give a good feel for the road, and I find them great for sprinting in given their responsiveness and their lightness. I treated myself to a pair of these shoes for my 51st birthday, and I stay injury free running in them! I highly recommend Distance IV s.

So far, the best shoes I found for forefoot running.
I have been a solid Brooks customer for years when I first started running with a heel strike. Now that I'm a forefoot runner, these are my favorite pair. I love my Distance IV. It's the best fitting shoes I currently have. Very light for speed workouts and fast runs but has enough cushioning for running a marathon. I was using a size 9 with cushion socks but during the 2015 NYC Marathon Expo, the Newton Customer Rep advised me that I should be wearing a size 8.5 so the balls of my feet is directly over the lugs. So I bought a new pair of new Distance IV in 8.5, wore them new on my 2nd NYC Marathon, and got a new PR on my 2nd ever marathon. Great shoes!

Great shoe
This shoe works for me, I prefer a zero drop shoe and wide toe box. When these came out I switched back from Altra. I use them for training and racing, half and full distant tris.

Great Ride
This is around my 7th pair of Newtons, and is by far my favorite. I have been running consistently for over 30 years. The first 15 were with orthotics and then migrating into mostly stability versions of whatever I was using. Since I started using Newtons, I have been able to modify my running gait from heal strike to a pretty clean midfoot strike. My legs feel stronger than they have been in 20 years. Great innovation, product and company behind all this..

Fast, but not for long distance
Crushed my PR for a 5K with these shoes. Just easy to run in for short distances. But once you reach 6 to 7 miles you feel the lugs hammering the bottom of your feet. Albeit, I am a big guy. 6'2" - 185lbs, it may be better for smaller runners. Switching back to the Gravity for my 70.3, I do not think I could handle these shoes for a half.
