I've been a minimalist runner for a few years now after suffering injuries in traditional brands. I've tried several different minimalist shoe brands over the years (Vibram, Inov-8, etc.). This is my first pair of Newtons and I love them! Really like the lug feature though it took some time to get used to. Highly recommend!

Fantastic - However the color combo is horrendous
Newton has done it again. The shoes are outstanding. If you can get over the color combination then you should buy these shoes. I don't know what Newton was thinking with the yellow, black and red. Must have something to do with the University of Colorado at Boulder colors.

Simply the best
I've tried different brands, different models of Newtons, and I continue to just come back to the Distance Elite. These are simply the best running shoes out there. Unfortunately I don't know much about the engineering that goes into making shoes, but just the combination of lightness, comfort, lack of injuries/pain - can't beat these.

So fast!
I just completed my 5th Boston Marathon in a row (11th marathon to date). I'm excited to say I ran a 2:56:59 which is 1:49 faster than ever. These shoes are so comfortable and fast. The upper is extremely comfortable. If you run in a 5 lug Distance model don't be afraid to try these for track work, tempo runs, or any race up to the marathon distance. If you order them and for some reason don't love then as much as I do you can exchange or return them within 30 days of purchase with no questions asked. What a great company to offer such a fantastic return policy. Enjoy your training and racing in these speedy shoes. Side note: If you heel strike the heel will wear away quickly. It's all a soft EVA foam and won't take the abuse like a Gravity will. This is to help the shoe be very light and race ready. If you are an efficient Newton runner you will have no trouble. Enjoy!

Best shoe I've run in but expensive and ugly color
This is one of those "beautiful on the inside" reviews.I think this is my 4th pair of Newtons, and 2nd consecutive pair of the Distance Elite, or maybe the 3rd. The shoes are perfect for me -- light weight, flexible, durable, and breathable. The fit is right for me and the toe box is even spacious, but I have a very average foot, maybe even narrow, which may not apply to others. I have no problems running them in half marathons. The lugs seem to complement my strike and promote better form as mine breaks down of the course of a long run. I'd love to read an explanation of their color choices ... I can't imagine them getting any worse than this yellow w/ red & black. I thought the last version in blue was a positive sign for future versions, but clearly 100% wrong. I'll ultimately remain loyal for the performance, but I'm disappointed because of the premium price for a worst in class aesthetic. It's clear a lot of care is put into the shoe's engineering so it's all very confusing me, and the others who've reviewed similarly, where the inspiration is coming from.
