All Newton Running shoe models have an average lifespan of 350-500 miles (500-800 km),  though many factors can have an effect on the longevity. If you don't keep track of your mileage, you can usually tell when you need to retire your current pair based on how they feel - once your Newton shoes are no longer giving you the same "pop" they once were, it is probably time for a new pair.

We are not able to ship to any countries where we have an exclusive distribution partner. Please use our International Distributor page to find your nearest distributor. If you do not have a retailer in your country, we are able to ship to you directly, however, you will be responsible for the cost of international shipping plus any additional duties or taxes when the package clears Customs. Please send a note to our International Sales point person with your order confirmation number if you have placed an order to be shipped internationally confirming you agree to pay these additional fees. Please note International shipments are not eligible for our return policy, at most we can only extend credit in these circumstances. No order is eligible for refund or credit in instances where duty and tax are the responsibility of the customer. All return shipping charges are the obligation of the customer, and shipping, duty, and other charges are not refundable, nor eligible for credit. And Newton cannot be held responsible for an order once it has departed US borders.

Newton Running is owned by one of the original founders, Jerry Lee. Newton is an independent manufacturer of running shoes founded in 2007 and based in Boulder Colorado.

Newton Running is a Boulder, CO based company – all the design, research, and wear testing is done here locally, and our shoes are produced overseas in several Asia countries (China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam among others).

Yes! Newton Running’s pro-team includes many world champions, ultramarathoners and triathletes. From amazing Becca Pizzi to Harvey Lewis athletes of all types use Newton to get the most out of their performance.

We recommend choosing your Newton based on several factors.

Your foot type
How comfortable you are with a midfoot technique
If you have ever worn Newtons before
Primary use for the shoes

If you have questions about which model is best for you, send us a message here and we will do our best to match you up with your Newton soulmate!

Great question! If you don't know your foot type, you can either stop by your local specialty running store for an analysis or check out our quiz for finding your foot type. Look up your local Newton retailer here.

Runners with a more neutral foot type will want to take a look at the Fusion, Fate, Gravity and Distance platforms. Not sure of your foot type? Check out our video here.

Runners with overpronation will want to take a look at the Isaac, Kismet, Motion, and Distance S platforms. Not sure of your foot type? Check out our video here.

Heel to toe drop refers to the measurement between the height of the heel of the shoe and the height of the midfoot. All Newton models have a heel to toe drop ranging from 0-6 mm. This just means that all our shoes are based on a more level to the ground platform to help you achieve a more natural running technique. Learn more about drop here.

The BOCO AT is our trail specific models that will offer the best trail-specific performance. The BOCO AT has a water-resistant upper and better cold weather protection.

You can! We offer two  models that work well as both a walking and running shoe as they offer good cushion on both the heel and the midfoot. One model is the Fate that is a neutral shoe and the other is the Kismet which is a stability model for inward pronation support.

The Fate and Kismet have a responsive cushioning system as the lugs on the ball of the foot are actually based on a hollow chamber with an elastic membrane that will give the midfoot cushioning a slightly firmer and more responsive feel. On both of these models the lugs are beveled and articulated to help rock you forward to hit that “sweet spot” on the ball of the foot. With good cushion on both the heel and midfoot and a less aggressive 4.5 mm heel to toe drop, the Fate/Kismet offer a responsive yet cushioned ride that make them a great option for walking as well as running.

Both of these models offer good full-foot cushion and support so it is really a matter of which one feels best for you.

We recommend basing your size off of your current running shoes. Measure if you have a full thumbs width of space from the top of your longest toe to the end of the shoe. If you have that much room, stay in the same size for your Newtons.

Our shoes run true to athletic sizing so most runners stick with the size that they typically wear in an athletic shoe, but occasionally some will move up a half size. If you're having trouble deciding between 2 sizes always start off ordering the larger! Many people underestimate the proper amount of room you need in the toebox and too tight a fit can really affect your happiness in the shoe.

The proper fit in your Newtons should give you about a thumb's width from the end of your longest toe to the end of the shoes. This should ensure that the raised lugs on the midfoot are fairly centered under the ball of your foot to allow you to hit your sweet spot on every stride!

Newton Running shoes are designed to show wear from the outside-in and your unique wear pattern can give you great feedback about your form and technique. Flip over your shoes and take a look!

Ideally, you should see most of the wear centered on the front third of the lugs under the ball of your foot and little friction wear on the heel or toe of the shoes.

For more information on your wear patterns, check out our customer corner video

Every runner is a little bit different in how long it will take them to adjust to their Newtons as it depends on a lot of factors. For some runners it takes a week and for others it may take months. We recommend starting with 10-15 minutes of running in the shoes and building up gradually from there.

Yes. Simply remove the insert that comes with the shoes and replace it with your over-the-counter insert or custom orthotic.

As you transition to your Newtons you can continue to rotate them with your more traditional running shoes. When starting out, we recommend using your Newtons for 10-15 minutes at a time and your other shoes for the rest of the mileage you want to log as this will help you adjust to the more level platform and unique technology in our shoes. You'll notice that the more you're in your Newtons, the less you will want to be in your old shoes!

Every runner is a little bit different in how long it will take them to adjust to their Newtons as it depends on a lot of factors. For some runners it takes a week and for others it may take months. Running with a more natural running technique engages the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon and calf with every foot strike. These muscles and tendons work very efficiently in unison but they are tiny and, therefore, susceptible to fatigue. Some slight soreness as you adjust to your Newtons is totally normal and nothing to worry about - it just takes some time to build strength and lengthen those muscles and tendons so be patient and take your time breaking in your shoes.

Running downhill with a midfoot strike takes a bit of time to master.  A confident, rapid leg turnover will allow you to stay on the midfoot while continuing to accelerate on the downhill. Keep your feet level to the ground rather than pointing your toes down and stabbing the ground or overstriding and braking with your heel. Watch a demonstration here

Your Newton shoes are built to take whatever distance you want to log in them, whether it's 5 km or 500 km.

The secret sauce powering the speed of Newton Running shoes is its proprietary Action/Reaction™ Technology. Generated by the active movement of the lugs, Action/Reaction Technology creates a responsive, trampoline-like cushioning system that provides quicker bounce-back and loses less energy than a traditional foam-core running shoe. Also known as 'lugs'

The responsive yet cushioned feel of the lugs in the forefoot is the same technology that exists in the heel. With Newton Running, you will get full-foot cushioning and protection with every step.

POP stands for Point of Power and refers to the different types of cushioning and level of responsiveness in our different models. This is the “sweet spot” in the shoes.

POP 1 refers to our most responsive lug platform. The POP 1 platform will have isolated and squared-off lugs based on an elastic membrane and hollow chamber to give you the most responsive ball of the foot platform. Found in our Gravity, Motion and Distance models, the POP 1 platform is designed to give you a highly responsive and dynamic ride.

Our POP 2 platform will feature the same elastic membrane and hollow chamber like the POP 1 platform but with rounded and articulated lugs to help guide you onto the sweet spot on the ball of the foot. Found in our Fate and Kismet models, the POP 2 platform will still offer a great responsive feel, but with a slightly more relaxed ride due to the beveled lugs.

EMB stands for Extended Medial Bridge. This is a feature that you will find on some of our stability models like the Kismet to further enhance it's stability. The EMB is an area of structural support that extends under the arch to help provide additional architectural support for runners who overpronate. A broader under-foot platform increases ground feel and gives you all the stability you need!

The Extended Medial Bridge provides architectural support through greater surface area under the arch to help complement the natural anatomy of your foot. This anatomical support will stabilize your foot without overcorrecting it. Learn more about the specifics of EMB here.

Over time, many shoe designs have become thicker, cushier and heavier with greater heel heights. In the spirit of making every stride better, Newton shoes feature lower heel to toe drops to put you in a position to run most naturally.
